Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos could not have started this edition of the Nitto ATP Finals in a better way, after placing themselves as leaders of the Green Group this Wednesday with a 2-0 record.
The Spaniard and the Argentine beat the main favorites Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek 6-4, 6-4, in one hour and 27 minutes, signing their second victory in two matches played so far in Turin.
After their impeccable performance at the Pala Alpitour so far, they qualified for the semifinals for the third time (2020, 2021 and 2023) in four participations in the prestigious end-of-season tournament.
And the challenge that Granollers and Zeballos had ahead of them on the third day of competition on the Italian fast track was not easy. On the other side of the net, in addition to being the No. 1 seeds, Dodig and Krajicek dominated the Lexus ATP Head2Head by 2-1.
However, the Spanish-Argentine duo did everything they could to equalize the head-to-head match. In the first set they converted their only break option and resisted when the Croatian and the American pressed to try to even the match. However, Granollers had to save three break points on serve with the score at 4-3.
Not only did they hold on to close the first set 6-4, but in the third game of the second set they opened another gap in the match to go ahead 3-1. Once again they knew how to manage the advantage to close the game on their side.
