The US Open is a grand slam tennis tournament held annually at Flushing Meadows in New York.

Along with the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open, it is one of the four grand slam tennis tournaments played each year with the US Open being the grand slam that is usually played last in the year.

In recent years, the tournament has been the grand slam where you were most likely to see someone outside the big three of men’s tennis (Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal) winning a grand slam, with players like Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, and Daniil Medvedev all winning their first grand slam in New York.

Tickets

Getting tickets for the 2024 tennis tournament in New York is relatively straightforward when compared with the process of getting tickets for Wimbledon, with tickets for the US Open being available for purchase directly from the USOpen.org website or via Ticketmaster in the months running up to the tournament.

NB: If you want to see some of the big players like Medvedev, Alcarazor Djokovic play in New York, then you will need to get a ticket for one of the main show courts (Arthur Ashe or Louis Armstrong stadiums) as this is where most of the top players will play during the tournament.

Where to Stay?

New York has many excellent options when it comes to local transport so it is easy enough to get to Flushing Meadows from most parts of the city with the closest subway to Flushing Meadows being Mets-Willets Point Station.

If you want to stay in a hotel with easy access to the US Open, then I would recommend the below options.

Grand Hyatt New York – The Grand Hyatt New York is close to the Grand Central – 42 St subway station that lets you take the number 7 subway line direct to the Mets-Willets Point Station next to Flushing Meadows.

Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza – Like the Grand Hyatt New York, The Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza is relatively close to the number 7 subway line so it is a good option if you are considering a hotel to stay in for your tennis trip to New York.

Tips for First-Time Visitors to the US Open

  • Don’t feel like you need to stay close to Flushing Meadows – New York has excellent public transport options so there is no real need to pick a hotel close to Flushing Meadows. My recommendation would be to stay in a hotel near the number 7 subway line so you get easy access to Flushing Meadows.
  • Aim to attend the tournament in the first week – If you are on a budget and you can only afford a grounds pass, then I would recommend that you visit the tournament in the first week as you will have a better chance of seeing some top players playing in some of the smaller outside courts.
