Marco Trungelliti beat his compatriot Andreozzi and will be Musetti’s first rival in Umag.

Marco Trungelliti is in good form and on Monday he beat his compatriot Guido Andreozzi 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the Adel Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag.

The Argentine, who is coming from the qualifier, managed to overcome a bad start to get rid of Andreozzi, also coming from the qualifiers, to seal the victory after two hours and two minutes of play.

Trungelliti saved six of nine break points and converted all five of his break point chances, while hitting 33 winners, according to Infosys ATP Stats.

Winner of an ATP Challenger and runner-up in two others in 2024, Trungelllti wants to get closer to the dream of breaking into the Top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings. At 34 years old, the Santiago native managed to get through the qualifiers in Barcelona and Hamburg this season, to play his first two ATP500 tournaments of his career and has already secured a climb to No. 123 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. His best position was No. 112 in 2019.

For a place in the quarter-finals, Trungelliti will be looking to upset second seed Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian is confident after reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon.

For his part, the Argentine Mariano Navone, sixth seed, could not join Trungelliti in R2 and fell 6-2 and 6-3 against the Italian Flavio Cobolli.

Jakub Mensik also easily beat Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-2, while Brazilian Thiago Monteiro beat Tomas Machac 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
