Tommy Paul is a player who does not conform. And so it has been since he achieved his first victory at the ATP Tour nine years ago, in Houston, with 18 years. In 2025, finally, the American is two victories to get his first shaped title in the same tournament.
This Friday, the first standard head advanced to the semifinals of Fayez Sarofim & Co. Us Men’s Clay Court on Friday with a triumph 6-1, 7-6 (1) against the classified Colton Smith. “I went out playing very well. I think he was a little nervous and gave me some free points, but then he matched there in the second set,” Paul said in his interview on the court. “We have both played a great level.”
Paul, four times ATP Tour champion, demonstrated his experience in a one -hour and 29 -minute victory. Despite obtaining only 47% of his serves, the winner was awarded 80% of his service points in total, according to Infosys ATP Stats. The NO.13 of the PIF ATP Ranking began the week with a 2-3 balance in Houston ATP 250, but has made a great level jump since its debut in the tournament almost a decade ago.
“I just have a little more experience,” Paul said. “I’ve been here for a little more time, and it cost me a lot to reach my first semifinal here. But I feel that I have improved a lot in my game, and I am excited about the next confrontation.”
Meanwhile, for the pass to the final will cross before the classified Jenson Brooksby, who traced before Aleksandar Kovacevic by 2-6, 6-3 and 6-4 in two hours and 21 minutes. No. 507 of the world had already fought from a party point in two meetings, one in the previous phase and another in the main box.
“I think I was able to keep calm and retreat as in my previous matches, simply regroup,” Brooksby said, who will try to get his first victory Lexus ATP Head2head against Paul.
The quarterfinals among Americans continued when Brandon Nakashima eliminated Christopher Eubanks 6-4 and 6-4 after a dominant performance with the serve. The fourth manager won 74% of its points with the second service and did not have any breakdown against Eubanks. Nakashima, who will try to reach its first ATP final on whipped land, is located in the 31st position of the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
Meanwhile, after the rain suspended the game, Frances Tiafoe sealed its pass to the semifinals against Nakashima with a 7-5 and 6-1 victory against the fifth head of the series, Alex Michelsen. The second standard head had not reached the quarterfinals this season and is now two victories from its first 2025 title.
Tiafoe, champion in 2023 and finalist in 2024 in Houston, has three consecutive finals in the tournament. He achieved 16 break points against Michelsen and turned four of them to advance.
