The 2025 ATP Tour season begins this Friday in Perth with the United Cup. The mixed team tournament is once again held in two cities: Sydney, where the action begins on Saturday, and Perth.

Four tennis players present in the latest edition of the Nitto ATP Finals and WTA Finals lead the representation of their nations with 18 teams in search of victory. Later in the week, we will analyze the ATP 250 tournaments in Brisbane and Hong Kong. Beforehand, ATPTour.com reviews five details to follow in the third edition of the United Cup.

Learn more details about the tournament at UnitedCup.com

1) Germany as current champion: A year ago, Alexander Zverev led Germany to the title in the second edition of the United Cup. Will the No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings manage to repeat the feat? The reigning champions begin their journey in Perth this year and Laura Siegemund, a key figure in the mixed doubles during the last edition, also serves as the women’s singles leader in the tournament.

2) Polish power: Poland had two championship points in the 2024 United Cup, but was one step away from victory in a vibrant final against Germany. Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Swiatek return to try to lift the trophy.

It will be the third consecutive year in which they represent their nation in the tournament, having managed to advance to at least the semi-finals in each edition. Hurkacz will look for a strong start to the season while collaborating with his coaches Ivan Lendl and Nicolás Massú for the first time. The Chilean will accompany Hurkacz in Sydney.

3) Fritz and Gauff are looking for a second title: The United States won the inaugural edition of the United Cup in 2023. The man who led his country to victory, Taylor Fritz, lands after completing the best season of his career, competing weeks ago for the title at the Nitto ATP Finals . Coco Gauff participates for the first time in the United Cup and will share the leadership of the United States with Fritz.

4) De Minaur leads local hope: Australian Alex de Minaur had the best season of his career in 2024, qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time. Now, he will try to write an even brighter story in 2025 by leading his nation again in the United Cup.

De Minaur has great memories at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney, where he won his first ATP Tour trophy in 2019. In the last edition of the United Cup, De Minaur had three Top 10 victories, including a victory against Novak Djokovic. The Australian No. 1 in Lleyton Hewitt’s team will be Olivia Gadecki, while Matthew Ebden and Ellen Perez can play a key role in mixed doubles.

5) Ruud and Tsitsipas are the following ATP figures: Ruud marked his resurgence in 2024, returning to the Nitto ATP Finals. The Norwegian will try to help his nation maintain its level in the United Cup for the second consecutive year after leading his group in Sydney during the last edition.

Stefanos Tsitsipas leads the Greek team alongside WTA star Maria Sakkari. Two years ago, the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals champion went 4-0 in individual points in the United Cup. Will he be able to complete a similar performance?

Ugo Humbert, released after a confirmation 2024 in which he reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final in Paris, leads France. For his part, the emerging Italian Flavio Cobolli leads his nation along with the world Top 10 Jasmine Paolini.
