The perseverance of Roberto Bautista Aguet will be present until the last point of his sports career.
The Spanish won on Monday his first victory of the 2025 season at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, grabbing a track he knows perfectly. The 2018 champion survived 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) to Hungarian Marton Fucsoovics in an open duel until the end, getting the victory after two hours and 38 minutes of wear in the Emirate.
In one of the most important events in the region, Bautista will have the opportunity to measure his real level of tennis. The Spanish could play the second round of the tournament against the third head of the Andrey Rublev series, recent champion in Doha, another player who knows what is to crown the United Arab Emirates ATP 500.
At 36, the Spanish faces a season in which to compete with the same usual passion in the ATP Tour. After leaving behind one of the most complicated moments of his career, a fracture of fibula that endangered his continuity in the locker room, Bautista seeks to give himself a 2025 that brings him closer to the strongest of the circuit. With visits to Adelaida, Melbourne, Rotterdam and Doha without a prize to start the year, the opportunity to raise the flight in Dubai has begun for El Levantino.
This Monday will serve to open the doors of the main picture to some of the main candidates for glory in the Emirate. The two-time Stefanos Tsitsipas runner-up was one of the great protagonists on the tracks of Dubai, by beating Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (4), 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes. For its part, the old Top 10 Karen Khachanov also advanced, after defeating Daniel Evans 6-3 in the first hour of the day.
