Rafael Nadal received the extraordinary trophy at the Great Gala de Mundo Deportivo, one of the Spanish newspapers who has followed his entire career at the ATP Tour on Monday night.

“I am well, perfect, doing another type of work, but trying to organize what my life is present and what is going to be my life of the future,” Nadal explained at the gala.

“All changes take their time, but personally everything very well. I am adapting to a new facet of my life. The last years of my career were difficult and that helps not to miss it. I have retired only three months ago, not a year ago. Therefore, I can’t say it clearly either, but for now I’m fine. ”

At 38, Nadal ended his professional career last November playing for Spain in the Davis Cup. Thus, the Spanish closed a historical stage, where he won 92 titles, including an absolute record of 14 Roland Garros, more than 1000 wins and an unrepeatable legacy.

“The most important thing is that I have had the great luck of being able to do something that I was passionate about a child,” Nadal confessed. “It started being a hobby and it has been a very important part of my life and for me that is the most important. Thanks to tennis I have been able to live, know and save experiences for the rest of my life. So I can only thank my sport, life, all the people who have helped me or went through my life at some point! ”

Nadal, who suffered innumerable injuries throughout his more than 20 years of career, now enjoys an almost painless withdrawal, which is a great news for Mallorcan.

“Now I am with little pain, the truth is that I am not forcing the machine much,” said the 22 Grand Slam titles champion. “I am being able to live with very little pain and this for me is very important. In the end, getting up and lowering the stairs normally is a very important advance for me in my day to day, to live with the peace of mind of not having much pain ”

Thus, and after a short time out of the slopes, Nadal is happy with the new stage he is currently living.

“I just retired, just three months ago, and every change takes time,” confessed the Spanish. “Personally I had respect for what was change, but I am being very happy in this new stage. We are going to go day by day, there are many things to adapt and, in some way, I have to discover what really motivates me to do in this new stage that I trust that it is also exciting. ”
