Pedro Martínez and a dream year start

The Spanish is in its best as always in the ranking

At 27, Pedro Martínez is living his best moment as a professional ATP Tour player. The Spaniard, born in Alzira (Valencia), now enjoys his best position in the PIF ATP Rankings (No. 36), which has allowed him to become the second best Spanish in the classification after Carlos Alcaraz (3). All this is due to the great beginning of Martínez’s year, which began the season outside the 40 best (44) and in a few months it has approached the top-30, leaving very good feelings at the level of play and results.

Martínez has reached the quarterfinals in Rotterdam (fell against Alcaraz) and the semifinals in Buenos Aires (yielded against Francisco Cerúndo), his two best results of 2025. Although in the Australia Open, the first Grand Slam of the course, lost against Alexander Zverev, who ended up reaching the final in Melbourne (and letting the crown escape against Jannik Sinner) He served as a leader in the triumph of Spain in the Davis Cup against Switzerland, winning his individual point on Saturday against Dominic Stricker and Sunday’s doubles with Jaume Munar to Marc-Andrea Husler and Stricker.

All that growth of Martínez has arrived at a time of personal maturity. At the end of 2023, the Spaniard was a father for the first time in his career, and that, logically, has changed his life: little Pedro Jr., who is 15 months old, has set up the day’s day to day, but especially has given him an extra motivation every time he jumps on track.

“Since he was born, my level went up,” said Martínez, who was a father with 26 years next to Claudia, his partner. The baby’s birth has served as a springboard to place Spanish in a large position in order to display its best version.

For a tennis player who was out of the 100 best in 2023, and who now enjoys his best ranking always, is evident the positive influence that a family has had to allow him to embrace a spectacular competitive state, placing him as the second best Spanish racket.

Now, Martínez reaches a part of the year in which he has the option of adding many points and continuing to ascend in the classification.
