If we talk about the greatest stay in No. 1, Novak Djokovic has an indisputable superiority.
The Serbian exceeded the record of weeks in No. 1 in the history of the PIF Rankings that Roger Federer had in March 2021, when he added 311 to his particular account. But on February 27, 2023, Djokovic took another step to become the player – man or wife – that has spent more time at the top of this sport, exceeding the 378 weeks of Steffi Graff.
“Overcoming one of the greatest, of the greatest legends of tennis – both male as female – like Steffi Graf … is a compliment and, obviously, I am very proud and happy of this achievement,” said Djokovic in a video then addressed to his fans.
Djokovic first amounted to No. 1 on July 24, 2011 and crossed his best stage at the top of the PIF ATP Ranking between July 2014 and November 2016, where he accumulated 122 weeks in a row at the top. Djokovic, who also has the privilege of being the player who has finished a season as No. 1 on more occasions (8), spent his last period in the one led in June 2024, before Jannik Sinner premiered at the top. The Serbian has passed 10 different stages as No. 1.
It now has a total of 428 weeks at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings and Djokovic is one of the five players that has been able to exceed the 300 weeks brand. He heads a privileged list of selects legends in which Graf (377), Martina Navratilova (332), Serena Williams (319) and Federer (310) are also Graf (377).
In his last stage as No. 1 of the world – 39 weeks between September 2023 and June 2024 – Djokovic managed to expand his record in the Nitto ATP Finals to seven titles.
