There is a long list of stories to follow in this edition of the Australian Open. Can Carlos Alcaraz become the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam? Will Jannik Sinner manage to defend his crown? And will Alexander Zverev maintain the great level of 2024 to end up winning his first major?
Those are some of the big questions to be resolved at Melbourne Park. However, there is something that captures everyone’s attention: Novak Djokovic’s partnership with his new coach and old rival Andy Murray. The Serbian announced last November that the Scot would join his team at the Australian Open, something that became a reality this Tuesday, sharing his first training session on the Australian hard court.
In this edition, Djokovic seeks to extend his record of crowns at the Australian Open to 11 titles and add what could be his 25th Grand Slam to his record. For now, the Balkan hit the court to hit his first balls at the Margaret Court Arena, under the watchful eye of Murray.

Born in May 1987, just one week apart, both Djokovic and Murray know what it’s like to rise to No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings and have had great battles on the circuit’s most important stages. So much so that the Lexus ATP Head2Head recorded 36 head-to-head matches, of which 25 fell on Djokovic’s side. Murray finished his career at the Paris Olympics last August.
Djokovic began his season last week in Brisbane, where he lost in the quarterfinals against Reilly Opelka. The 37-year-old Serbian will meet his first opponent at Melbourne Park this Thursday, once the draw is held at 2.30 pm (local time).
