Little by little, Matteo Berrettini is gaining confidence again on the court and this week at the Grand Prix Hassan II he has taken a step forward, appearing this Wednesday in the quarterfinals of an ATP Tour tournament for the first time since February of last year In Acapulco.

Berrettini, who competes in Marrakech with a protected ranking, beat the Spanish Jaume Munar in the second round 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 20 minutes, in a match in which he had to work against the struggle of his rival.

Although in his debut on Moroccan clay he beat Alexander Shevchenko with authority 6-2, 6-1 to sign his first ATP Tour victory of the season, he continued his good form against Munar. It is the first time he has won two matches in a row at this level since last Wimbledon.

But it was not easy, although at first it seemed that way. Above all, when he led 6-4, 3-1, 0/40. However, Munar is one of the great exponents of the Spanish tennis maxim: fighting for each ball as if it were the last. And so he did it to force one more set.

Berrettini knew how to find the patience necessary to find a gap in the Spaniard’s resistance. And with eight direct serves, 74% of points won with the first serve and 4 breaks converted in the 13 opportunities he had, he closed the victory.
