Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos proudly wear the No. 1 tag in the PIF Doubles ATP Rankings. The Spaniard and the Argentine are the main favorites in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and this Thursday they took another step to appear in the semifinals in Rome.

In one hour and 28 minutes on the court Pietrangeli worked their ticket against the Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, whom they defeated 6-2, 7-6(4).

The Spanish-Argentine duo fulfilled the ‘tradition’ that has been established this season. And in the five ATP Masters 1000 that have been played so far in 2024 they have reached, at least, the semi-finals.

The No. 1 seeds in Rome reach this level, furthermore, without having dropped a set along the way. In their debut in the first round against Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten they won 6-1, 7-6(3), in the second round they defeated Andrés Molteni and Rafael Matos 6-4, 6-2, before beating Gille and Vliegen in two sets in the quarterfinals.

Granollers and Zeballos will try to get rid of the thorn in the Caja Mágica at the Mutua Madrid Open, where they could not take to the court to play in the semifinals, due to an injury to the Argentine during the quarterfinal match.

Despite their great numbers this year, which have helped them lead the world rankings, they are still chasing their first crown of the year. To do this, they will have to beat individual specialists Alexander Bublik and Ben Shelton in the next event.
