2025 Joao Fonseca Season

Joao Fonseca’s first tournament of 2025 was at the ATP Challenger event in Canberra in January, where he defeated the American Ethan Quinn in the final 6-4, 6-4.

At his next tournament, the Australian Open, Fonseca made it to the second round after winning three qualifying matches and defeating Andrey Rublev in the first round (7-6, 6-3, 7-6).

In the Australian Open second round, he lost to Lorenzo Sonego in a thrilling five-set match (7-6, 3-6, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6).

At the Argentina Open, Joao claimed his maiden ATP title win, when he defeated Francisco Cerúndolo in the final 6-4, 7-6 – see video highlights below.

Following his success in Buenos Aires, Joao lost in the first round of the Rio Open (Lost to Alexandre Müller 1-6, 6-7) and in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open (Lost to Jack Draper 4-6, 0-6).
