Munar reaches 100 ATP victories in Barcelona

The Spanish traced Tiafoe in First Round to achieve the figure

“100? I didn’t know.” It was Jaume Munar’s reaction, when he met that on Tuesday he had become a centenary in the ATP Tour in Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

The Spanish managed to turn him around the favorite No. 9 Frances Tiafoe 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in two hours and 41 minutes to add the magical figure of victories in the circuit. “That number says that I have been here for years, each one does their career, mine has my way and it is obviously that it is a special number,” he acknowledged at ATPTOUR.com.

Interestingly, at the Royal Tennis Club Barcelona-1899 he also signed the tenth one-year triumph in which he is approaching the highest position of his career: No. 52 of the PIF ATP Rankings that he reached on May 20, 2019.

“Game for matches like this, to play matches against the best in the world and just that it has happened here, at home, it makes it even more special,” Munar continued on the 100 games won in the ATP Tour on the beaten land of Barcelona.

“100 victories in ATP is always a good number, obviously I hope they are many more, but reaching points like this is special, because it is the acceptance that you are doing things well and for a long time,” added the 27 -year -old Mallorcan.

Of course, Munar equals each of the matches he has won since he premiered as a professional in 2014, although two of them stand out above the rest.

“My first victory in Grand Slam was very special, when I won David Ferrer in five sets,” the Spanish confessed. “Another victory that I will remember for what it meant then was when I won [Alexander] Zverev in Marrakech, it was my first year on the tour and he was No. 3 of the world, I really felt special. ”

Munar will try to keep the account expanding as soon as possible. And his next opportunity will be in the second round of Barcelona in front of Karen Khachanov.
