Nicolás Jarry has achieved his first qualification to the quarterfinals of the ATP Tour since last September, after beating Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi this Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Brisbane International presented by Evie.
The Chilean achieved it by winning with sets of 6-2, 6-3 in 65 minutes of play. Although he could not save the only break option he faced on serve, he had a very high 90% of points won on the first serve. In addition, he broke four times to inaugurate his Lexus ATP HeadToHead with triumph against the current No. 75 in the rankings.
The last time the world No. 35 had qualified for the quarterfinals of an ATP Tour event was in September at the ATP 250 Chengdu. Now he will seek his first advance to the semifinals of the circuit since he was a finalist at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome in May 2024.
Rome had precisely been the last time that he had chained multiple triumphs in the same event. But the drought has ended with his victory this Wednesday against Bonzi, which supports the victory two days ago against the Argentine Mariano Navone.
His next opponent will be the Czech Jiri Lehecka, who has just defeated the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in a very disputed match. After two hours and 20 minutes, the No. 28 in the rankings won with sets of 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-5 to leave his Lexus ATP HeadToHead with Nishioka at 1-0.

Now he will seek to advance to the semifinals, a round he entered in his last tournament in 2024 (he lost in that instance to Denis Shapovalov at the ATP 250 in Belgrade). The 23-year-old Czech leads his Lexus ATP HeadToHead 1-0 with Jarry since beating him a year ago in Adelaide.
In other results of the day, Grigor Dimitrov also progressed to the quarterfinals in Brisbane. The 2024 and 2017 champion, seeded second, won 6-2, 7-6(5) against local Aleksandar Vukic to seal his eighth qualification to the quarterfinals of this event.
The 33-year-old right-hander has now advanced to this stage in Brisbane in his last seven appearances. With a record of 25-6 in this event, Dimitrov will face the winner of the duel between Alex Michelsen and Australian Jordan Thompson in his next outing on the court.
