Jannik Sinner has arrived in Montreal to compete in the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers, whose main draw takes place from August 6-12. The Italian will try to defend the crown won in Canada last season, when he beat Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-1 to claim his first ATP Masters 1000 title.
As No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, the Italian is 22-1 on hard courts this season, a record punctuated by just one loss to Carlos Alcaraz in a three-set semifinal at Indian Wells. Sinner is seeking his third Masters 1000 title and second this year after lifting the trophy in Miami. Sinner withdrew from the Olympics after suffering from tonsillitis.
“It’s great to be back in training. I hope I can build up some work from here,” Sinner wrote on social media on Tuesday.

The extra time has allowed Sinner to travel to Canada earlier than planned and begin preparations for a successful defence of the trophy. The Italian, just 22 years old, will train on Wednesday afternoon. The tournament draw will be announced on Saturday 3 August. Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev will compete alongside Sinner in Canada.
