To say that Jannik Sinner is enjoying a successful first season as No. 1 of the PIF ATP Rankings is to tell only half of the story.
Since he ascended to the top of male tennis on June 10 of last year, the Italian has been almost perfect. According to the Infosys ATP index of victories and defeats, the percentage of synner wins as No. 1 of the world has been better than that of the ancient 28 No. 1s previous in the history of the PIF ATP Rankings (since 1973).
% of victories as No. 1 of the world (Top 5)
Sinner has a 47-3 mark since he held first place, which is a percentage of victories of 94%. The sample is small compared to other players in the table, but there is no doubt that it has started with good foot.
The 23 -year -old has won titles in six of his nine tournaments: Halle, Cincinnati, the US Open, Shanghai, the Nitto ATP Finals and the Australian Open.
Only three players have won at least 90%of their matches as No. 1 of the world: SINNER, BJorn Borg (91.9%) and Jimmy Connors (90.1%).
Sinner has not only won an overwhelming percentage of his matches, but his three defeats have all gone on the decisive set. The player with the worst ranking he has lost since he became No. 1 of the world was Andrey Rublev, then No. 8 and the dessert champion, last year in Toronto ..
The Italian has not lost a game in stoned sets since the final of the Nitto ATP Finals 2023 against Novak Djokovic. That defeat occurred seven months before it ascended to No. 1 of the world.
The percentage of synner victories as No. 1 is far ahead of the other three active players who are part of the ATP number 1 club: Djokovic (86.1%), Carlos Alcaraz (78.6%) and Daniil Medvedev (72.7%). It is important to note that Djokovic has played 513 more games as No. 1 of the world, but Sinner has had a dream start.
The pressure of being the player pursued by the rest of the ATP Tour has not stopped its growth. Sinner has won a significantly higher percentage of parties such as No. 1 (94%) than before reaching the top (74.3%).
The one in San Cándido, which has been 34 weeks since No. 1, is trying to become the fifth player in history that prolongs his place in the first place for more than a year. Those who have achieved the feat are Roger Federer (237 weeks), Connors (160 weeks), Llenton Hewitt (75 weeks) and Djokovic (53 weeks).
Sinner currently stops No. 2 of the world, Alexander Zverev, at 3,695 points. His next competition is scheduled in the Qatar Exxonmobil Open de Doha, which begins on February 17.
