The Generali Open was awaiting a tough start for Daniel Elahi Galán, who after passing the qualifying round, had to begin his journey in the main draw against the sixth seed and recent champion in Bastad, Nuno Borges. However, the Portuguese was absent due to injury and the scenario changed.

The Colombian, who is ranked No. 137 in the PIF ATP Rankings, did not waste the opportunity to continue growing and on Tuesday beat lucky loser Hamad Medjedovic in the first round in Kiztbühel by 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in two hours and 53 minutes.

Galán advanced to the second round, where he will face Facundo Díaz Acosta, who on Tuesday beat his compatriot Federico Coria. Against the Argentine he will try to achieve something he has not been able to do yet this season: win two matches in the main draw of an ATP Tour tournament.

The first round of the Generali Open between Argentines Facundo Díaz Acosta and Federico Coria promised to be a long battle between the two and it did not disappoint. After three sets, the balance ended up tipping in favor of Díaz Acosta by 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 in one hour and 44 minutes.

It was the third time that the Lexus ATP Head2Head had seen a clash between the two and, as had happened in the previous two, the victory went to the same side. However, in the two previous ATP Challenger Tour encounters, Coria had been the winner.

And this time on the Swiss clay it looked like the youngest of the Coria brothers would break the streak against Díaz Acosta, who had already beaten him this season in the semi-finals in Buenos Aires before lifting his first ATP Tour title.

Two consecutive breaks to open the match allowed him to comfortably lead 6-2. But the world No. 77 responded with authority, winning twelve of the next fifteen games and securing a place in the second round in his first appearance in Kiztbühel.

Díaz Acosta, who broke a four-match losing streak, had not won a match on the ATP Tour since last April at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, where he reached the quarter-finals (l. to Tsitsipas).

Did you know…?

Facundo Díaz Acosta has played 25 matches this season on the ATP Tour with a record of 13-12 overall to date.
