Cruz Hewitt, son of former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, will make his debut in qualifying for a Grand Slam next month at the Australian Open.
The 16-year-old Australian is among the players who have received an invitation to play in the first major of the season. In addition, Matthew Dellavedova, Blake Ellis, Hayden Jones, Pavle Marinkov, Marc Polmans, Rei Sakamoto, Dane Sweeny and Eddie Winter also have a wildcard.
Hewitt entered the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time this year, on September 9, and reached a career-high position of world No. 1,245 in November.
Cruz’s father, Lleyton, is one of 29 players who are part of the exclusive ATP No. 1 club. Champion of the 2001 US Open and 2002 Wimbledon, he was also a finalist at the 2005 Australian Open.
The entry list for the preview was also published. The first player on that list is the Argentine Federico Coria, while other notable names are Christopher Eubanks, Daniel Evans, as well as the participants in the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF 2024: Learner Tien, Luca Van Assche and Joao Fonseca .
