Olympic glory continues to fuel Carlos Alcaraz’s efforts, determined to make his name known in all areas of sport. The Spaniard reached the quarter-finals in Paris 2024 on Wednesday, coming within a step of medals in the French capital. Weeks after winning Roland Garros on this same stage, his youth continues to make headway with gold as his immediate dream.

The No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings showed his poise on clay, defeating Roman Safiullin 6-4, 6-2 to further establish himself as a contender for the top spot on the podium. On a sunny day in Paris, his power strokes led the way to victory, extending a continued bravery on the biggest stages of the tour.

The Spaniard will now face world No. 13 Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals. The American booked his spot by beating Frenchman Corentin Moutet 7-6(6), 6-3, leaving the singles draw without local representation in Paris.

Alcaraz leads the Lexus ATP Head2Head record against the American, whom he has never faced on clay, by 3-2. The Spaniard has managed to climb to the quarterfinals without giving away a single, impeccably overcoming his duels against the Lebanese Hady Habib and the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor.

With his firm step in Paris, the Spaniard is moving towards another major piece in a historic list of achievements. Alcaraz continues to write a historic season on the ATP Tour, where he managed to chain the titles of Roland Garros and Wimbledon before competing for the first time in the Olympic Games.

On a highly-engaging day in Paris, top seed Novak Djokovic found his way to the quarterfinals after defeating German Dominik Koepfer 7-5, 6-3 to keep alive the hope of winning a gold medal for the first time in his career. The Balkan native, a bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will face world No. 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. The Greek defeated Argentine Sebastian Baez 7-5, 6-1.

The Murcia native has become one of the names in Paris, attracting all the attention with his great results in competition. In the men’s doubles, partnering former champion Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz will seek to reach the semi-finals this Wednesday.

Did you know…?
Carlos Alcaraz is aiming to become the youngest ever Olympic champion in the men’s individual event. The Spaniard, at 21, would surpass the record set by American Vincent Richards exactly 100 years ago at the 1924 Paris Olympics.
