Alex de Minaur has withdrawn from Wimbledon ahead of his quarter-final against Novak Djokovic due to injury.
The ninth seed announced he would not be able to compete against seven-time champion Djokovic at a press conference. Alex reflected on the discomfort he suffered in his hip during the final games of his fourth-round win over Arthur Fils and was unable to recover in time to face second seed Djokovic on Centre Court on Wednesday.
Djokovic, No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings, advances to the semifinals where he will face either No. 13 seed Taylor Fritz or No. 25 seed Lorenzo Musetti. The Serbian is aiming to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight singles trophies at the All England Club.
Reaching the penultimate round this year, the Balkan native has equalled Federer’s record of 13 appearances in the men’s singles semi-finals at Wimbledon.
