The Spaniard debuted this Wednesday at the Omnium Banque Nationale present par Rogers in Montreal with intensity, marking his territory in one of the most important events on the calendar. If the tour prior to the US Open tests the toughness of the players, the Malaga native showed that he is ready for the challenge.

The No. 42 in the PIF ATP Rankings completed a worthy debut to the tournament, defeating Roman Safiullin 6-2, 7-5 to book his ticket to the second round. With an electric game, Davidovich managed to score 39% of the points on return, sharpening his reflexes in a tournament that demands immediate reactions. The Spaniard, who adapted his schedule to be able to compete on hard courts until the end of the year, has made progress with successes in Atlanta, Washington and Montreal.

Now, Davidovich will face an unfinished business in his professional career. The Spaniard will face Daniil Medvedev in the second round, a player he has never managed to beat on the circuit. The third seed leads the Lexus ATP Head2Head record by 4-0, including a duel this season in Dubai and two ATP Masters 1000 events, on the courts of Indian Wells and Madrid.

On a day of great activity in Montreal, Spanish tennis will also be represented by Pedro Martínez Portero. The Valencian will face Croatian Borna Coric in the first round. This Wednesday, Argentine Mariano Navone, one of the revelations of the season, will also take to the court to face American Taylor Fritz.

This season, ATP Masters 1000 hard court champions such as Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Hubert Hurkacz headline a highly talented field on the Canadian courts.
