Winning an ATP Masters 1000 is a feat reserved for very few compared to the thousands that have tried since 1990, when this category of tournaments was created. The champions list does not exceed 80 players, and is quite reduced – almost halfway – if only those who have succeeded have been taken into account.

Now imagine that same list, but only determined by players who have won the same ATP Masters 1000. You could count on the fingers of one hand! During this fortnight at the BNP Paribas Open of Indian Wells, the first ATP Masters 1000 of 2025, Carlos Alcaraz will be trying to become the fifth to get it.

The exclusive group is made up of Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, precisely the four players with the most 1000 Masters titles in history.

The first to achieve this was Agassi in Miami thanks to his conquests between 2001 and 2004, and then Federer matched him in Indian Wells prevailing between 2004 and 2006. Nadal did not take long to do the same: in 2007 he won his third consecutive crown both in Montecarlo and in Rome.

In fact, in ‘The Principality’ he would arrive at his eighth conquest in 2012, marking what is still the longest streak of titles in any ATP Masters 1000. And, later in this same event, he would mark a tricampeonato again, between 2016 and 2018.

Djokovic also has at least three different periods defending twice the same title of Masters 1000, thanks to his gusts in Paris (2013-2015), Indian Wells (2014-2016) and Miami (2014-2016).

1000 Masters Tournaments with the same champion at least three editions in a row

Miami 2001-2003 (Agassi) Paris 2013-2015 (Djokovic)
Miami 2004-2006 (Federer) Indian Wells 2014-2016 (Djokovic)
Montecarlo 2005-2012 (Nadal) Miami 2014-2016 (Djokovic)
Roma 2005-2007 (Nadal) Montecarlo 2016-2018 (Nadal)

Alcaraz was already very close to entering this list last year. Being the current champion of Madrid thanks to his conquests in 2022 and 2023, the Murcian fell in the quarterfinals (p. With Rublev) in the 2024 edition.

Now in the Californian desert you will have a new opportunity to match this incredible record of the highest winners in tournaments of this level. After being champion in 2023 and 2024 thanks to his wins against Daniil Medvedev in both finals, the 21 -year -old right -hander returns to Indian Wells as second preclassified.

This Thursday his rival is defined in the second round: he will leave the winner of the duel between his compatriot and friend Pablo Carreño Busta, and the Frenchman Quentin Halys.
