Tomas Machac arrived at the Mexican Open Telcel presented by HSBC of Acapulco as the player with the best ranking that his record had not yet released.

The Czech changed his situation in a big way this week in Mexico, where he was defeating Jakub Mensik, Daniel Altmaier, Learner Tien, Brandon Nakhasima until Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beats this Saturday in the final.

Machac, which is the third Czech player to conquer an ATP 500 trophy (the series began in 2009), along with the old Top 10 Berdych and Radek Stepanek shots, amounts to the top 20 of the PIF atp Live Rankings. At 24 years, he spoke with Atptour.com to value his victory.

It All Adds Up

What does it mean to win your first individual atp tour title?
It means a lot. I never dreamed of what would happen. Especially in an ATP 500, so the sensations are incredible. I worked very hard last year, so I am happy to be able to achieve something that shows me that I go in the right direction.

What have been the key figures in your life and career that have helped you achieve this goal?
I think the people around me, who helps me when I have problems. It is very important because at that time, when there is stress on the track you feel that the good people around you try to help you in your career. It helps me a lot, because when I get to those moments I call those people who would not be here without them.

My family, my girlfriend and my cousins. In addition to my coach and my team. My chiropractic, my physio of Australia, my physical trainer. We work together and the result goes more and more.

This is a historical moment in your career. How are you going to celebrate victory?
I will celebrate it with my family. Now I will try to recover and be prepared for Indian Wells, since I feel some discomfort, but I hope it is nothing serious. I have a job to do and then we will celebrate.

How would you describe yourself as a player and how would you describe yourself outside the track?
I can be very aggressive and I can be defensive, so I think my game is unpredictable. Sometimes, I don’t know what to do on track and then I can play my best tennis. Outside the track I think I’m a pleasant and quiet person.

What is your biggest passion outside tennis and can you tell us a little about your interests?
I like to spend time with the family. When I win some money, I buy something, but the most important thing is to spend time with the best people and people who are trying to help me when I have problems.

We know that you like basketball and also that you like to read and watch television series. Being life in the intense circuit, how important do you give your hobbies out of tennis?
Hobbies change a lot. Since then I don’t have much time to read and spend more hours in Netflix and watching series. I like Peaky Blinders. It is one of my favorites. And game of thrones, they are series that I can see and relax. I also like to drive old cars.

What is your dream day without tennis?
Spend time with my family and have a pleasant meal, then take a step through the forest to relax. Then I would see Netflix at home and have a good dinner. Nice and easy.

You travel a lot due to this work. If you could visit a vacation site and not for tennis, where would you go and why?
I would say some beautiful island. I’ve never been to exotic islands, so I would say something exotic.
