Tennis gives revenge faster than is believed and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina can attest to it. His last time competing on a track had been nine days ago in the final of the Beach Open and losing despite having two points for championship against Miomir Kecmanovic. This time the one who has traced has been Spanish. And spectacularly.

No. 48 of the PIF ATP Rankings was 2/6 in the second partial after losing the first. That is to say: his rival, the Italian Mattia Bellucci, had four match points. But the Spanish ended up saving all and building its path to the victory 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the first round of the Mexican Open Telcel presented by HSBC.

It is not the first time that the 25 -year -old right -handing advances saving game points in the season. During the Australia Open, Jakub Mensik beat a 0-2 in sets and raising two match points to seal his first classification to some eighths of that event. This Tuesday in Acapulco did not miss the drama.

Before tracing in the Tie-Break, he saved two crucial breaks in the 4-4 of the second partial, but also wasted three set balls to the rest: one in 5-4 and two in 6-5. The defeat seemed imminent when Bellucci, who had entered as Lucky Loser, had a 6/2 advantage in the tiebreaker with his return.

Three non -forced errors of the Italian in the next three points gave life to the Spanish, which connected two winning shots in the last two points of the tiebreaker to bring to the meeting to a third in which he only found more and more impulse. After two hours and 19 minutes of play, the ex No. 21 of the world was left with the victory, his tenth in the season.

In the end he connected 30 winning shots, against 34 of his opponent, and made 17 non -forced mistakes, almost half of Bellucci, who added 32 in this area.

In eighths he will seek to win more when he measures the winner of the duel between the American Frances Tiafoe, seventh head of series, and the Frenchman Alexandre Muller, who comes from being a finalist in the ATP 500 of Rio de Janeiro.

In other results of the day, the Mexican Rodrigo Pacheco won his first victory in a main team of the ATP Tour after beating the Australian Aleksandar Vukic 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (4), and in three hours of game.

With this marker, the 19 -year -old left -hand Acapulco from Santiago González in 2011, when the contest was still played on clay.

His next opponent will be the second head of series, the Norwegian Casper Ruud, with whom he has no background.
