Carlos Alcaraz’s Journey to Debut at the Nitto ATP Finals | ATP Tour

At only 14 years old, Carlos Alcaraz attended the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time at the 02 Arena in London, in 2017. He did so to play in an Under-14 category tournament, which he won after beating Brazilian Pedro Pedro in the final. Boscardin 6-4, 6-2. And, in addition to the title, the Spaniard brought back a memory that he still has in mind: he was able to watch live a match by Roger Federer, who reached the semifinals (he lost against David Goffin).

In 2022, the year of his definitive consecration, Alcaraz qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals, but an abdominal tear (which he suffered at the Rolex Paris Masters) prevented him from competing in the final event of the season. The Murcian, however, traveled to Turin and went to the Pala Alpitour to receive the ATP No. 1 trophy presented by Pepperstone at the end of the year, the youngest in history (since 1973).

That night, accompanied by his father, Alcaraz was able to learn about the tournament and even had dinner in the players’ area, while he looked with envy at the participants of a special and unparalleled event.

Finally, Alcaraz will debut at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2023 after another exceptional year in which he has won 6 titles, including Wimbledon, and added a record of 63 wins to 10 losses that led him to qualify for Turin after winning to Novak Djokovic in that final on the grass of the third Grand Slam of the season.

Consequently, Alcaraz will live from this Monday when he faces Alexander Zverev the experience of the Nitto ATP Finals in its maximum splendor: three guaranteed group stage matches and the possibility of fighting for one of the most important titles on the ATP Tour.
