Matteo Berrettini took the title in Marrakech this week during his return from injury, while Hubert Hurkacz and Ben Shelton captured their first ATP Tour trophies of the year in Estoril and Houston.
ATPTour.com reviews the main movements of the PIF ATP Rankings as of April 8, 2024.
No. 84 Matteo Berrettini, +51
Berrettini’s emotional victory at the Hassan II Grand Prix has returned the former world No. 6 to the Top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings. After overcoming an ankle injury that kept him out for six months, the Italian barely delivered two sets on the way to his first ATP Tour trophy since 2022. Matteo sealed his victory by breaking a streak of nine consecutive victories in the tournament of the current champion Roberto Carballés Baena .
No. 8 Hubert Hurkacz, +2 (Equals Personal Best)
Hurkacz had never stepped foot in an ATP Tour final on clay. However, the Pole competed without nerves to defeat Pedro Martínez and win the Millennium Estoril Open trophy. Hubert, who now leads the Spaniard 3-0 in Lexus ATP Head2Head history, has equaled his career-best position in the PIF ATP Rankings by climbing two places to No. 8.
No. 14 Ben Shelton, +2 (Marca Personal)
A five-match losing streak on clay did not hinder Shelton’s confidence as he debuted at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. US Men’s Clay Court Championships. The American became the youngest champion of the tournament since Andy Roddick in 2002, sealing his title in a highly competitive final against his compatriot Frances Tiafoe. Ben moves up two spots to a career-high ranking of No. 14 after lifting his second ATP Tour title.
No. 60 Pedro Martínez, +17
Pedro Martínez could not overcome Hurkacz’s great serve in the Estoril final, but his performance in Portugal boosts him 17 places to No. 60. The Valencian signed his first Top 10 victory against Casper Ruud in the semifinals to reach the third final ATP Tour of his career.
