Krawietz and Puetz are in the semifinals despite the defeat

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden were not willing to leave this edition of the Nitto ATP Finals empty-handed, despite the fact that this Friday they took to the Inalpi Arena court knowing that they had no chance of being in the semifinals.

However, the No. 6 seeds managed to beat Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 7-5, 6-7, 10-7, in one hour and 41 minutes, to debut with their first victory in the Bob Byran Group ( 1-2).

It was the fourth time they met face to face, although all the meetings recorded by the Lexus ATP Head2Head until then had been last year. On this occasion, Bopanna and Ebden managed to equalize the record at 2-2 against the Germans in Turin.

Bopanna and Ebden, who had completed a great season to date with two titles (Australian Open and the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami) were able to say goodbye celebrating one more victory, No. 25 of the year.

For their part, Krawietz and Puetz had been the last to cross the cut line that gave access to this edition of the Nitto ATP Finals. Despite arriving in Turin as the No. 8 seeds, in their debut in the competition as a team they managed to be the first to qualify for the semifinals.

From the afternoon duel between Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, the players who have secured the Year-End ATP Doubles Team No. 1 presented by PIF (No. 1 at the end of the year) and the local favorites Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori will emerge the name of the last couple left to qualify for the semifinals.

In the Mike Bryan Group, this Thursday the duo composed of Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten won a ticket to the ‘Final Four’ as first, while the Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson did so in second position.

Did you know that…?

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz are the first all-German couple to reach the semifinals in the doubles category in the 55-year history of the tournament.
