After winning his second match in Shanghai, accumulating a streak of 11 consecutive victories (including the Davis Cup, the Laver Cup and the title in Beijing), Carlos Alcaraz signed the camera with a wink at Cristiano Ronaldo, today a footballer for Al-Nassr .

‘Siuuu’, wrote the Murcian, replicating the famous shout that the Portuguese usually exhibits in celebrations of his goals. That detail also reflected something else: Alcaraz is enjoying a very sweet moment, with his mind and body in perfect condition and his tennis shining on the Asian tour.

“I feel very good,” Alcaraz acknowledged this Sunday after defeating Yibing Wu. “I have a little pain in some area of the body, but at normal levels for a tennis player,” he continued. “It’s something you have to deal with. The last two games have been very high intensity, but I feel good. Now I have a day off to recover, train a little and take it easy.”

It will be good for Alcaraz to be able to “take it easy.” After winning in Beijing last Wednesday, in a grueling final against Jannik Sinner, the Spaniard traveled to Shanghai to play the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 of the year. With just one training session, Alcaraz debuted by beating Juncheng Shang on Saturday and continuing that victory on Sunday against Wu, reaching 100 victories on a fast track.

“It was a very tight match,” explained the No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings. “He has been there all the time and the difference has been in small details, when he has failed in key moments,” he continued about his rival. “I have played at a high level, but his tennis is incredible, with great ball-hitting ability. Plus, it’s very fast,” he added. “It is one of the few times that I have felt that I have not dominated all the time. I have been more focused on his thing than mine, and it is something that I have to improve. I am very happy to advance to the round, win this very difficult match and give myself the opportunity to continue growing.”

And where has Alcaraz found the drive to regain his best tennis after having a tough time on the US summer tour? The answer is clear: in the team tournaments (Davis Cup and Laver Cup, which he played in Valencia and Berlin respectively) that have brought joy back to his game.
