Hurricane Otis caused serious damage to Acapulco last October, including the venue of the ATP 500 held in the city, the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC. However, the event organizers confirmed this Thursday that the 2024 edition of the tournament will go ahead in Acapulco.
“With great enthusiasm and optimism, we are pleased to announce that the Telcel Mexican Open presented by HSBC will take place in Acapulco, from February 24 to March 2, 2024,” the organizers confirmed. “This event marks a significant milestone in the reconstruction and revitalization of this emblematic city. By holding the tournament in Acapulco, we not only promote tennis, but we also generate a positive impact on the local economy and the community, providing vitality to sectors such as tourism, transportation, gastronomy and hospitality, including the generation of jobs in the region”
“With this celebration, we reaffirm to the world that Acapulco is open and standing.”

The organizers made it clear in their announcement that the tournament does not celebrate tennis alone, but represents unity among Mexicans to rebuild the city after the damage caused by the hurricane.
“We express our recognition and gratitude to the great work and support of the people of Guerrero, to the public that has purchased tickets, to all our sponsors for their continued support and to tennis led by the ATP,” said Álvaro Falla, director of the Telcel Mexican Open presented by HSBC.
