Alex Michelsen wasted no time in his debut at the Moselle Open on Sunday. The eighth seed at the ATP 250 indoor event in Metz beat Frenchman Harold Mayot in 76 minutes. Michelsen saved all nine break points he faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to win 6-3, 6-1.
“I feel like today I was painting the lines with my backhand, and that doesn’t always happen, but when it does it feels really good. My forehand return was incredible too, so that’s always a plus,” said Michelsen, who is second in the PIF ATP Live Race To Jeddah, is seeded in an ATP Tour event this week for the fourth time in his career, having reached two seeded finals in 2024 (Newport, Winston-Salem).
The 20-year-old #NextGenATP star will face either Richard Gasquet or Thiago Monteiro for a spot in the third round.
Earlier, local hope Corentin Moutet also advanced, after Sumit Nagal was forced to retire with the Frenchman leading 7-5, 4-0. Earning his first indoor victory since 2022, Moutet will face either Alexander Shevchenko or seventh seed Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round.
Meanwhile, at the Belgrade Open, local Hamad Medjedovic fought against Brandon Nakashima and emerged victorious 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. The match was a display of stamina and skill, in which Medjedovic achieved a hard-fought victory. The Serbian is now 4-1 in his career against Top50 opponents when playing on a hard court.
Now, Medjedovic will face the winner of the duel in Alex Kovacevic and his compatriot Branko Djuric, who passed the qualification. For his part, Fabian Marozsan beat Juncheng Shang 2-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 on Sunday night. He will face in the next round the winner of the match between the Serbian Dusan Lajovic and the Argentine Mariano Navone, seeded No. 9.
