The ATP Baseline program distributes 1.3 million to players in 2024, guarantees minimum income to the Top 250 for the first time in history

The initiative expands in 2025

December 18, 2024

The ATP has confirmed the distribution of a total of 1.3 million dollars among 26 players in the first year of Baseline. Launched in 2024 in a three-year trial plan, the initiative has guaranteed minimum income to players in the Top 250 for the first time in tennis history.

The 1.3 million dollars in total have been distributed among players who met a series of requirements, supported by the three pillars of Baseline: Minimum guarantee, income protection and investment in newcomers.

Baseline has promoted the minimum income guarantee for players ranked in the Top 250 of the individual rankings, providing a financial safety net beyond their performance on the court. In 2024, a total of 17 players benefited from the minimum guarantee, with the ATP intervening to cover the shortfall when prizes fell below the minimum threshold.

The ATP will increase these minimum guaranteed income thresholds in 2025: to $200,000 (from $150,000) for players ranked between 101 and 175, as well as $100,000 (from $75,000) for players ranked between 176 and 250 in the world . These thresholds mean that all players who finished 2024 in the Top 250 will earn a minimum of $100,000 in 2025, as long as they play a minimum of 15 tournaments.

In 2024, the income protection pillar supported three players who suffered injuries, financially supporting the recovery process and their return to the circuit.

Seven players benefited from the last section, the investment in newcomers. This is aimed at players who have reached the Top 125 for the first time, allowing stars who reach the elite to invest in their careers and break into the ATP Tour.

Andrea Gaudenzi, president of the ATP, points out that “Baseline represents a change in the economy of a tennis player. We are providing financial support to players who need to overcome challenges and build a sustainable career, whether dealing with injuries, performance setbacks or hitting the circuit for the first time. With $1.3 million distributed to players in Baseline’s first year, the impact is evident. And, with the expansion planned for 2025, this is just the beginning.”

For his part, Bernabé Zapata Miralles, ATP player, indicates that “as a professional tennis player, you are focused on results. Relying on your performance to succeed can be difficult, especially when setbacks such as injuries or poor performance arise. With Baseline, we have the peace of mind we need to improve, under the pressure of economic uncertainty. “It is a pioneering effort by the ATP to improve its support for players and I am excited to see the program expand.”

Finally, Hamad Medjedovic, ATP player, adds that “entering the ATP circuit is an incredible achievement. You work very hard to reach this level and the road is not always easy. “Baseline gives you the extra boost you need to develop your potential, investing in resources and advance planning.”
