Chile will once again have multiple representatives in the main draw of the ATP Masters 1000 in Canada after 18 years. The presence of Alejandro Tabilo and Nicolás Jarry marks the first time since 2006 that at least two tennis players from this country will be in the North American competition.

In that edition, played in Toronto, the Chilean protagonists were Nicolás Massú and Fernando González, who ended up reaching the semifinals before falling short against the eventual champion Roger Federer.

The return of several Chileans to this event has to do with the high positions of Tabilo and Jarry, and the great season of each one. The first of them, who has stood out precisely at the ATP Masters 1000 level in 2024 (finalist in Rome and quarter-finalist in Miami), is No. 24 in the PIF ATP Rankings.

The second-ranked player, who won in Auckland and Mallorca, is ranked No. 21, a position that allows him to appear this week as the No. 15 seed in Montreal. The 27-year-old left-hander went from having never played in this tournament to doing so and with pre-seed status.

The last time a Chilean made his debut at the ATP Masters 1000 in Canada and as a top seed was Marcelo Ríos in the 1996 edition. Tabilo will leave his mark when he takes to the court on Tuesday to face American Frances Tiafoe, with whom he has a 0-1 record in the Lexus ATP HeadToHead between them.

Jarry, meanwhile, made his debut at this event in 2023, but this Tuesday he will be chasing his first victory of the tournament when he faces Argentine Tomás Etcheverry, No. 38 in the world and with whom he has a 2-2 record in the Lexus ATP HeadToHead between them. See the full schedule.
