Carlos Alcaraz’s loss to Grigor Dimitrov on Thursday night at the Miami Open presented by Itau could be a double blow on Sunday for the Spaniard.
If Jannik Sinner wins the tournament, he will surpass Alcaraz in the PIF ATP Rnakings and rise to World No. 2 next Monday. If not, Alcaraz will remain No. 2 and Sinner 3.
The Italian has already established the mark of the highest-ranked player from his country in the history of the PIF ATP Rankings. Now, the 22-year-old is two wins away from breaking his own record.
PIF ATP Live Rankings
Player | Live Pts | Max Pts tras Miami |
1) Novak Djokovic | 9,725 | – |
2) Carlos Alcaraz | 8,645 | – |
3) Jannik Sinner | 8,110 | 8,710 |
4) Daniil Medvedev | 7,165 | 7,765 |
5) Alexander Zverev | 5,415 | 6,015 |
Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals in Miami, a rematch of last year’s final at Hard Rock Stadium. In the last Lexus ATP Head2Head matchup between the two, Sinner came back from two sets down to defeat Medvedev in the Australian Open final.
Dimitrov also has the opportunity to take a big step. The Bulgarian will return to the Top 10 for the first time since 2018 if he eliminates Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals. By reaching the championship match, Dimitrov would shoot up to No. 9, also surpassing Hubert Hurkacz. A title would propel him to No. 7 in the world.
Medvedev and Zverev remain in their current positions. Medvedev, defending champion, will leave Florida as world No. 4, and Zverev will remain number 5.
