Without making too much noise but always constant, Roberto Carballés Baena continues to build the best season of his career on the ATP Tour, where he has already set his most outstanding record of matches won in a single year with 25.

The Spaniard made his debut this Monday at the European Open in Antwerp with a hard-fought victory against Dominik Koepfer 6-4, 6-0, in one hour and 13 minutes to head to the second round for the first time in his three appearances at the Belgian ATP 250.

The No. 54 in the PIF ATP Rankings is pursuing his return to the world Top 50 in a year in which he has already played in an ATP Tour final in Marrakech (l. with Matteo Berrettini), has reached the quarterfinals on four occasions, in addition to win two crowns on the ATP Challenger Tour (Braunschweig and Seville).

Carballés’ 5 best seasons on the ATP Tour
2024: 25-23

2023: 19-24
2019: 19-20

2018: 14-17

2021: 11-16

Their passage to the second round in Antwerp was not as easy as the scoreboard dictates. The Spaniard had to turn around a 1-4 deficit in the first set. From then on, Carballés Baena managed to link eleven consecutive games that helped him move forward in the tournament.

The 31-year-old Andalusian will now face the top seed Alex de Minaur, a player against whom he lost this year at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome on clay (3-6, 2-6) and who dominates the Lexus ATP Head2Head 0-1.
