“I am very disappointed to share that I will not be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week.” Rafael Nadal will not participate in this edition of the Laver Cup from next Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September in the German capital, defending the colours of Team Europe.
The Spaniard, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, had his next appointment scheduled on the calendar in this indoor hard court competition, but in a statement shared by the Laver Cup on its official social media accounts he has announced his last-minute withdrawal.
A statement from @RafaelNadal regarding Laver Cup Berlin 2024: “I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week.

“This is a team competition and to support Team Europe I need to do what is best for them, at this moment there are other players who can help the team to get the victory,” Nadal continued.
“I have great and emotional memories of playing the Laver Cup and I was really looking forward to being with my teammates and Bjorn [Borg] in his last year as captain,” added the man from Manacor about his absence in Berlin.
Nadal last took to the court at the Paris Olympics, where he advanced to the second round before falling to eventual gold medalist Novak Djokovic.
“I wish Team Europe all the best and will be cheering them on from afar,” he concluded.
Instead of the Spaniard, Grigor Dimitrov will represent Team Europe.
