There are still five days left until Spain debuts in the first quarterfinal match corresponding to the 8-a-side Finals of the Davis Cup, but Rafael Nadal is already in Malaga preparing for what will be the last tournament of his professional career.
The man from Manaco, who has not competed since the last edition of the Paris Olympic Games in July, will be part of the Spanish team selected by David Ferrer, along with his compatriots Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista Agut, Pedro Martínez and Marcel Granollers.
Although last weekend he accelerated his preparation for the team competition that he has won five times (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2019) at the Rafa Nadal Academy with Bautista, this Thursday he started to make contact with the surface at the Martín Carpena complex facilities.

Under the watchful eye of Ferrer and his coach Carlos Moyà, he took his first shots on the Andalusian training courts with his teammate Pedro Martínez.
Nadal, at 38 years old, has played a total of 19 individual matches in the seven tournaments he has played this season in Brisbane (quarterfinals), Barcelona (second round), the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid (round of 16), the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome (second round), Roland Garros (first round), Bastad (final) and the Paris Games (second round).
From next Tuesday, November 19 to Sunday, November 24 – if Spain manages to advance to the final – it will put the finishing touch to a legendary career in which it has won 92 ATP Tour titles, 22 of them in the Grand Slam category, has won more than 1,000 matches and enjoyed 209 weeks of tour dominance as No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
