The ATP Masters 1000 palmarés already dictated that Novak Djokovic was the great dominator of the category.
The 40 trophies of the Serbian – four more than its maximum persecutor, Rafael Nadal (36) – confirmed it, but to consecrate in all the sections of the statistics, he still needed to be the player with the most games won in this type of tournaments. And this Sunday at the Miami Open presented By Itaú he got it.
The six-time champion in Miami surpassed the Argentine Lucky Loser by Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-1, 7-6 (1), in an hour and 47 minutes, to establish the absolute record of victories in the ATP Masters 1000 (411).
“It is an honor to have broken another record,” Djokovic acknowledged. “There is always something at stake, every time I play, and of course it motivates me to do well in tournaments.”
More victories in the ATP Masters 1000

Djokovic, who already had the highest figure of titles (40), finals (59) and semifinals disputed (78), continued to expand his legend in the Hard Rock Stadium before a rival in front of the one who did not register any antecedent in the Lexus ATP Head2head.

Serial head No. 4 linked two games in a row without giving a set in its first participation in Florida since 2019. He barely had trouble carrying out the initial sleeve and when everything seemed face to accelerate towards victory with 6-1, 2-1 and break in his favor, Ugo Carabelli returned the coin.
The Argentine managed to arrive alive to the Tie-Break, however, the 99 ATP titles champion raised his level in the tiebreaker to opt for the balance in his favor, with 80% of points won with the first service (39/49) according to the Infosys ATP statistics.
“I started very well, 6-1, in a first set very similar to that of two days ago,” Djokovic valued. “Things got complicated in the second. I broke the serve, he returned it to me and then was matched. I had opportunities with 4-4, but I think it was fair to get to Tie-Break. Then, as two days ago, it was a perfect tie-break. Great serve, when I needed it and, in general I am happy.”
In Fourth Round the favorite will face No. 15 Lorenzo Musetti.
The Italian was able to turn the meeting that began losing in front of the head of series No. 18 Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in two hours and 26 minutes, in which it was his first victory against a Top 20 since he beat the No. 3 Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals of Vienna last October.
Musetti, who accumulates two presences in the quarterfinals this season (Hong Kong and Buenos Aires), will try to add one more in Miami against Djokovic, a player who has only broken on one occasion in the eight appointments that contemplates his rivalry Lexus ATP Head2head (7-1).
