Matteo Berrettini continues to make strides in his return to the top level. The Italian reached the final of the Generali Open in Kitzbühel on Friday, extending a splendid run of form on the ATP Tour. After lifting the Gstaad trophy a few days ago, the Roman has now racked up nine consecutive victories on clay as a test of his strength.

The former No. 6 in the PIF ATP Rankings completed another show of resilience, defeating German Yannick Hanfmann 6-4, 6-4 to move into contention for the title. Berrettini again imposed his first serve toughness, securing 89% of first-serve points to cruise to victory without suffering a single break point.

Berrettini had a stellar week in Kitzbühel, climbing to the final without losing a single set throughout the tournament. Far from finding an easy path, the Italian has coolly navigated a draw full of critical moments. Matteo has won all five tiebreaks faced in the week, a great test before seeking the Austrian trophy.

The Italian will now go for his second title in two weeks. His last obstacle on the way to the trophy will be Frenchman Hugo Gaston, who reached the second ATP Tour final of his career after Argentine Facundo Diaz Acosta withdrew due to a right knee injury. The Frenchman led 6-1, 2-0 when the South American was forced to withdraw from the tournament.

Berrettini and Gaston will write the first chapter of their Lexus ATP Head2Head history on the circuit. The Italian would return to the Top 40 of the PIF ATP Live Rankings if he wins the title in Kitzbühel.

Did you know…?
Matteo Berrettini is aiming to become the third Italian to win the Generali Open singles title. Since its introduction on the ATP Tour calendar in 1973, only Adriano Panatta (1975) and Andreas Seppi (2010) have managed to lift the trophy on the Kitzbühel clay court representing the flag. blue.
