Since Mariano Navone played in the last edition of Roland Garros his first main team in a Grand Slam, he has not lacked any appointment in a tournament in this category. The Argentine returned to the stage this year where he not only debuted but managed to inaugurate his vitories locker in a major.

A season later, as No. 97 of the PIF ATP Rankings, he has written a new page of his young career in the circuit, advancing a third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in Paris. He got it after defeating Reilly Opelka on Wednesday 6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-3, in two hours and 26 minutes.

Navone already has as many victories as defeats in the ‘Majors’ with a 4-4 record in his five participations. The Argentine, who had already been able to bend the favorite No. 28 Brandon Nakashima in the initial tie, could with the American in the second round.

On track 9 he resisted not only the rain – which he even forced to stop the game – but he knew how to contain the American of powerful service, which this time left his figure of ACES in seven and raised up to nine the double faults. On the other side of the network, the Argentine managed to snatch 45% of the points that subtracted and convert 5 of the 16 break opportunities he had in his favor.

In the third round of Roland Garros, Lorenzo Musetti will be measured, a rival to which he has only faced himself before at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Then, the Italian won on two sets.

One of the strongest players, without a doubt, on this spring on whipped land is being Musetti. His great performance in recent weeks has served to climb to the highest position of his career at the PIF ATP Rankings as No. 7 of the world and this Wednesday in Roland Garros, he made way at full speed at third round.

The Italian, who plays in Paris as the eighth head of the series, measured his impeccable moment in the first turn of the Simonne-Methieu track against Daniel Elahi Galán. And in two hours and six minutes he claimed his status as a surface specialist 6-4, 6-0, 6-4.

“Honestly, today it was not easy to play because there was wind,” Musetti acknowledged. “I think I managed to be there and play a solid game. That was what I needed. I had to raise the level and I am very happy to be in the third round.”

Musetti, who has linked two wins without giving a set against Yannick Hanfmann and Galán himself, landed in the capital of France as the first player of his country capable of playing the semifinals of the three ATP Masters 1000 on beaten land the same year: Montecarlo (Final), Madrid (SF) and Rome (SF). And already presents a 15-3 record on the tour.

In addition, this Wednesday’s victory allows you to consolidate as one of the five players born in 2000 or later with more games won in the Grand Slam torns.

Players born in 2000 or posterior with more Grand Slam victories

On track 12, Juan Manuel Cerúndo concluded his adventure in Paris in Second Round, falling in front of Hamad Medjedovic 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 31 minutes. The Argentine from the previous phase had surprised in its premiere in the main box to favorite No. 32 Alex Michelsen, but could not extend his streak four wins in the French brick dust against the Serbian champion of the Next Gen ATP Finals present by Pif in 2023.

The Serbian, who had not won a Grand Slam match before this Roland Garros (0-4), has not given up a set on his way to Third Round. Now he waits for Daniel Altmaier, who made a hard commitment to Vit Kopriva 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Did you know what …?
Lorenzo Musetti has achieved 10 of the 25 victories he has signed in a Grand Slam tournament in Roland Garros. The past year stayed in the third round – Muma Ronda that has already reached in this edition – after falling into five sets against Novak Djokovic. His best result in Paris was the fourth round he achieved in 2021 (p. With Djokovic) and 2023 (p. With Alcaraz).
