Mariano Navone returned to the starting point this Sunday.
Twelve months ago, he had not been able to play the main picture of any Grand Slam, but in Roland Garros he undertook an adventure that still continues unscathed. And a year later, he returned to Paris without having lost an appointment in a tournament in this category since then.
The 24 -year -old Argentine not only made up of returning to the whipped land that saw his locker for Victorias de Grand Slam last year, but in this edition he added one more triumph. This time he defeated in the first round in Paris to the head of series No. 28 Brandon Nakashima by 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in three hours and 31 minutes.
Navone matched the best result of his career in Roland Garros-the second round he signed in 2024 (p. With Machac Tomas)-and presents a 3-4 record in the Grand Slam.
The narrative was not devoid of drama. On the other side of the network, not only one of the main favorites on the French beaten land was expected, but the rain was responsible for granting suspense brushstrokes to the story. When Navone dominated 7-6 (2), 4-6, 3-1, the day stopped due to adverse weather conditions.
Of course, on the return to track 14, the Argentine did not lose his pulse to the meeting and linked three consecutive games that left him just a set of the second round.
Navone will face the American Reilly Opelka in second round, who managed to bend Rinky Hijikata 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-6 (3).
Before the Argentine raised his arms to heaven from the French capital to celebrate his triumph, both Hamad Medjedovic and Marton Fucsoovics – practically in unison – had been the first protagonists of the first day of competition to release this edition of Roland Garros.

The Serbian beat Kamil Majchrzak 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (2) in two hours and 13 minutes. In the second round he will face the Argentine from the previous Juan Manuel Cerú, who surpassed No. 32 Alex Michelsen 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
For its part, Fucsoovics did not find too many problems to get rid of the Australian guest Tristan Schoolkate 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours and 17 minutes. The Hungarian will be measured in the following round to the favorite No. 12 Tommy Paul, who avoided a scare against the Danish Lucky Elmer Moller by 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
Did you know what …?
Mariano Navone reached this Sunday in the first round of Roland Garros the 30 victories in his career, 80% of them being in whipped land (24/30). The 24 -year -old Argentine has played a total of 68 games in the circuit at this point in his career.
