Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos debuted their status as No. 1 with absolute confidence, demonstrating their ability to act as leaders in the doubles locker room. In their first tournament as owners of the ATP Tour throne, Spaniards and Argentines settled this Saturday in the final of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, one of the most desired stages in the clay court season.

The first seeds resolved a demanding duel 6-4, 6-4 against Alexander Bublik and Ben Shelton to place themselves one step away from recovering the Foro Italico cup, an achievement they already achieved in the 2020 season. Granollers and Zeballos exhibited their enormous experience to control an orderly match, where they achieved victory without giving up a single turn of service.

His time on Roman clay has been a true display of confidence. Spaniard and Argentine have climbed to the championship match without delivering a single set in the tournament, completing one of the most memorable performances of the 2024 season.

Granollers and Zeballos managed to rise to No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings after reaching the semifinals of the Mutua Madrid Open at the beginning of the month. Horacio became the first Argentine in history capable of occupying a world No. 1 in any men’s category.

Spaniard and Argentine will play the seventh ATP Masters 1000 final of their careers as a couple (5-1), trying to add a new milestone in the gold category of the ATP Tour after those achieved in Canada 2019, Rome 2020, Madrid 2021, Cincinnati 2021 and Shanghai 2023.

Now, the Eternal City places them before a new challenge of enormous prestige. Granollers and Zeballos will seek the Internazionali BNL d’Italia crown against the pair formed by Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavic, who beat locals Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 6-2, 7-6(5).
