The start of the doubles event had been affected by the incessant rain that has marked the week in Paris. But this Friday, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos were finally able to debut their status as No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings in a Grand Slam.
The Spaniard and the Argentine, who act as the main seeds on the French clay, beat the locals Adrian Mannarino and Fabrice Martin 6-2, 6-2, in 61 minutes, in the second round on Court 11.
Granollers and Zeballos have now gone nine consecutive games without defeat. The couple appeared at Roland Garros as recent champions of the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome, just a few weeks after reaching the semifinals at the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid, where they had to withdraw without ever taking to the court.
Their good performance this season has taken them to the top of the world rankings for the first time in their careers. In the second round, they await the winner of the match between the Frenchmen Quentin Halys/Nicolas Mahut and the Austrians Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler.
For their part, the third seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury also resolved their first obstacle in Paris with authority against the Uruguayan Ariel Behar and the Czech Adam Pavlasek 6-3, 6-4 in 69 minutes.
