Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos’ love affair with the grass at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club remains intact as the No. 1s in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings will be chasing their third Wimbledon final on Thursday.
The top seeds in London beat the German duo of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4, 7-6(3) in one hour and 30 minutes on Court 3 on Wednesday, securing a place among the top four teams in their three most recent participations (2021, 2023, 2024).
Granollers and Zeballos repeated the same matchup —and result (victory in two sets— as last year in the semifinals on the same stage, where they already beat the German duo who this time started with the label of No. 8 favorites.
The Spaniard and the Argentine have yet to drop a set in this edition of Wimbledon, after beating Brazilians Thiago Monteiro and Thiago Seyboth Wild (6-2, 6-3) in the first round, advancing without playing Nicolas Mahut and Skander Mansouri (walkover), while in the third round they beat Sebastián Báez and Dustin Brown (6-3, 6-3).
They will now repeat the semi-finals they reached in their last tournament this season at Roland Garros and since they played their first Grand Slam together at the 2019 US Open, it will be their ninth semi-final in a tournament of this category.
