Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic are officially the couple that has dominated the ATP Masters 1000 territory this season, after this Sunday they won the third crown of the course in this category at the Rolex Paris Masters.
The Dutchman and the Croatian managed to overcome Lloyd Glasspool and Adam Pavlasek in the Paris-Bercy final 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 in one hour and 12 minutes, adding the title in the French capital to those who achieved previously in Indian Wells and Shanghai.
“It’s very special. Winning three Masters in one year is an incredible achievement for both of us,” said Koolhof, who is retiring at the end of the season. “We went through a difficult stretch in the middle of the season, but before Shanghai, we knew what we were risking to get to Turin.”
The No. 6 seeds accumulate an 8-0 record in the last two ATP Masters 1000 events held and finish with a balance of 18-5 in tournaments at this level, being the great dominators with three titles, ahead of the two that Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos conquered.

Koolhof and Mektic, who had just finished the final last week at the ATP 500 in Basel (l. with Murray and Peers), had to recover from a set down for the first time all week. And they did it thanks to 82% of points won on the first serve, according to Infosys ATP statistics, compared to Glasspool and Pavlasek.
The champions at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020 joined their rackets again this year, where they have already secured their presence in Turin among the eight best pairs of 2024.
“There is still a lot to play for in Turin and in the Davis Cup,” added Koolhof, who will represent the Netherlands against Spain in the quarterfinals in Malaga. “It will be special against Spain and against Rafa [Nadal]. He will monopolize all eyes, but I am going to try to torpedo the Spanish machine a little.”
This year they have been able to collect a total of five ATP Tour titles, including the ATP 250 in Auckland, the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, as well as the three ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, Shanghai and Paris.
For his part, Mektic also became the active player with the most doubles titles in the ATP Masters 1000 this Sunday, surpassing the nine he until then shared with Granollers and Marcelo Melo.
“We have a good relationship of friendship, energy and understanding,” shared Mektic. “On and off the court, we have a lot of fun, and I think this is fundamental.”
