Exactly one year ago, Nicolás Jarry fought to lift the trophy in the Italic forum. Now, with few looks on his shoulders, the Chilean seeks to repeat the deed.

The South American landed on Thursday in the second round of the Internalzionali BNL d’Halia, scene of the only final ATP Masters 1000 of his career. In the heart of the European brick dust tour, the Chilean unleashed his blows to Hugo Gaston 7-6 (4), 6-4, defeating the French versatile in a match full of power.

Jarry had to persevere in a party of opportunities counted, where just a break made the difference in his favor. With an immense bag of points to protect, the South American assumed the responsibility to launch for victory, shouting his service to shout victory in the clay of Rome. If a great result implies added pressure, the Chilean sustained the weight perfectly.

A year ago, Jarry managed to deploy a tennis capable of competing for any circuit title. His presence in the final of Rome opened the doors of the Top 20 of the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time in his career, demonstrating a great future ahead in the circuit.

In the latest edition of the Jarry Tournament he signed a memorable escalation until the final, surpassing figures such as Stefanos Tsitsipas or Tommy Paul before yielding in the decisive duel with Alexander Zverev. That ability to stand up to the first line of the costume will soon have to become evident in the eternal city, where the big adversaries appear very soon on the Chilean road.

In one of the South American duels with the most shine of the circuit, Jarry will have to measure forces in second round with the Argentine Francisco Cerú, recent semifinalist at the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid. It will be an unprecedented shock in the ATP Tour with the Italic forum as an unbeatable backdrop.

Did you know what …?
Nicolas Jarry is one of the three Chilean players who have reached the individual final of the Bnl d’Italia. Santiago’s tennis player joined the Gestas signed by Marcelo Ríos (finalist in 1997, champion in 1998) and Fernando González (runner -up in 2007).
