Carlos Alcaraz’s exit in the second round of the US Open gives Jannik Sinner a great opportunity to extend his lead at the top of the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.
Sinner (7,100 points) holds a firm 1,090-point lead over second-place Alcaraz in the Live Race, which also serves as a marker in the race to finish as ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF. After Alcaraz suffered a second-round loss to Botic van de Zandschulp on Thursday night, World No. 1 Sinner knows he can extend his Live Race lead over Alcaraz to 2,990 points if he can lift the trophy in New York.

With Alexander Zverev still alive in the New York draw, Sinner needs to reach his first US Open semi-final to guarantee his position at the top at the close of the season. major If Sinner loses in the fourth round or the quarterfinals, No. 3 Zverev could take over the lead in the Live Race by winning his first Grand Slam title. The German would overtake Alcaraz for second place if he reaches at least the quarterfinals.

The five players chasing Sinner, Alcaraz and Zverev in the Live Race are all still in contention at the US Open. Among them, in seventh place is Novak Djokovic, who booked his ticket to the third round at Flushing Meadows in an attempt to win his 25th Grand Slam title. If the Serb can complete the feat, it would also boost his position in the Live Race: the seven-time Nitto ATP Finals champion could reach fourth place by winning the title in New York.
Alex de Minaur (3,005 points) consolidated his eighth-place finish by defeating Otto Virtanen to reach the third round. No. 9 Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated in the first round in New York, but there are three players within 500 points of de Minaur still alive in Flushing Meadows.
Home favourites Taylor Fritz (2,690 points) and Tommy Paul (2,635 points) as well as Grigor Dimitrov (2,535 points) will be looking to go deep to put pressure on the Australian, who currently holds the last direct entry spot to the Nitto ATP Finals. At No. 14, Lorenzo Musetti is also looking to take his chances. The Italian has 2,225 points, just 780 points behind De Minaur.
