Achieving a position in the Top 10 of the PIF ATP Rankings is an immense objective, even without the adversity that Jack Draper has faced during his young career.
The 23 -year -old British signed an impressive victory against the current champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open of Indian Wells. In addition to reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 final, Draper also claimed to become the second youngest British man – after Andy Murray – to enter the world top 10.
For years he had shown great potential in the circuit, and only the injuries prevented him from leaving a mark consisting of the ATP Tour. Now, after beating Holger Rune in the Indian Wells final to conquer the greatest title of his career, the left -hander has begun to rub shoulders among the elite of the ATP Tour as new No. 7 World Cup.

“Relief, satisfaction, a cluster of great emotions,” Draper said about his feelings after beating Alcaraz and ensuring his arrival at Top 10 in Indian Wells. “I have gone through many things in the few years that I have been playing, especially in the last ones with some injuries. I have worked a lot to somehow try to recover a good level.”
“It was my goal at the end of last year. Obviously I have achieved good results, but I want to achieve regularity and get to the point of challenging the best players in the world in the biggest tournaments.”
For many of his rivals, the arrival of the British to the top 10 is not a great surprise. Among them is Alcaraz, before which Draper had to retire twice due to injury, including the fourth round of the Australian Open this season.
“When we face Australia, he had to retire,” Alcaraz recalled. “You’ll be where you deserve,” said the Spanish this Saturday after Draper cut his streak of 16 wins in Indian Wells. “He deserves to be in the Top 10. He deserves to play a Masters 1000 final. I’m glad for him, he had no doubt about his level.”
“He is prepared to stay here for a long time. He has a level to compete for the great tournaments. I have not been surprised what I have seen today. It was not a simple game for him, playing to enter the top 10 and in his first final 1000 Masters 1000. I think he made it great. He has managed the nerves better than me.”
Overcoming physical obstacles has been common in Draper’s career. The British landed on the top 50 for the first time in September 2022, but could barely complete 28 games in a 2023 full of injury. In addition, he had to delay the beginning of his 2025 season for hip tendonitis. His coach James Trotman recently explained at Atptour.com how the limitations of his pupil in Junior times hit his robust style of play.
“There was a lot of potential,” Trotman said about Draper. “He was very small when he was 15 or 16 years old. He grew up as a low stature player competing against larger guys, having to defend and finding the way of being competitive against stronger boys who could get him out of the track.”
“His identity from a very early age was to be somewhat more defensive. Suddenly, he grew up to 1.93my began to get strong, with very hard blows. Much of this trip that we continue to do together consists in imposing his weapons on the track and snatching the racket from his rivals.”
After completing that goal to win its first two ATP Tour titles in Stuttgart and Vienna in 2024, Draper has led his game to a new level on Indian Wells tracks. His left -handed service and an immense right served as pillars to overcome #nextGenatp Joao Fonseca and local talents such as Jenson Brooksby, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton, before completing the feat beating in three to Alcaraz and surpassing Rune.
Throughout the tournament, the British managed to keep calm on the track. In his press wheels after the matches, Draper acknowledged feeling pride in his progress but also confessed his hunger to continue improving, an attribute that Alcaraz and the rest of the rivals observe carefully.
“In the end, it’s about training, eating, playing Monopoly Deal, preparing my game and competing as hard as I can,” Draper said after winning Alcaraz. “The result is the result. If I achieve the victory, it will be great. If I do not, I have to continue working the next day.”
“He is obviously very exciting.
