The story of Joao Fonseca in Masters 1000 started just a year ago at the Mutua Madrid Open and with victory against the American Alex Michelsen in the first round. Twelve months later, the Brazilian has debuted again with triumph in this event.

This time it has been before the Danish Elmer Moller, but with an effectiveness that intimidates. The #NextGenatp star won with partial 6-2, 6-3, after breaking four times and finishing the match without facing Break Points to the serve.

“I love playing in whipped land. I was born on this surface, so I like to play in it, even with the height [de Madrid]. I like to concentrate on my serves and play aggressively, so I feel good this week, ”explained the champion of the latest edition of the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF.

After an hour and 13 minutes, No. 65 of the PIF ATP Rankings reached ten victories in a season in which an ATP Tour (Buenos Aires) tournament (Buenos Aires) was already winning for the first time, and beating a member of the Top 10 (v. Rublev in Australia).

Better return to competition could not ask for Fonseca, who did not play professional since March at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami, where he reached third round (p. With Miñaur).

“My team and I felt that it was time to recharge a little, concentrate, be at home, rest mentally, and then come here to complete the season of whipped earth. I am very happy with today’s victory.”

Now he will look for his second best triumph of 2025 when he measures No. 12 of the PIF ATP Rankings, the American Tommy Paul. He will also pursue his third triumph against a member of the Top 20, as he surpassed No. Ugo Humbert a few weeks ago in Miami.
