Although Carlos Alcaraz faced three points for championship against Jannik Sinner in the definition of Roland Garros, Juan Carlos Ferrero did not completely lose hope.
“I think his strength lies in continuing to believe until the last ball. And he tries again and again,” said Ferrero, Coach del Murciano. “When I was 3-5, 0/40 on the fourth set, he looked at me and yet made me a gesture with the racket, as if saying: ‘I’m still here, come on!'”
“I will not say that I thought he was able to recover from that 3-5, 0/40. But with Carlos, everything is possible, and he did again. It is an incredible achievement.”
Alcaraz now has a 5-0 record at the end of Grand Slam despite being on the verge of defeat against his main rival on Sunday. The Spaniard struggled to the fullest to trace a 0-2 in sets for the first time in his career.
“Of course I think he was born to play this type of moments,” Ferrero said. “Every time we were in these situations, even when I was younger in the Challengers, in the 250, in the 500, when I had the great opportunities at that age, I always took advantage of them.”
Ferrero explained how important it is, and how much the team encourages Alcaraz, maintaining its style of play in the moments of greater pressure. His performance in the Tie-Break of the last set was almost impeccable, and his spectacular winning right to seal his victory will always be remembered.
“We try to prepare it mentally for these types of situations, as perhaps the Fifth Set Tie-Break,” said Ex No. 1 of the PIF ATP Rankings. “He tried from the first point. He is very brave at all times and very aggressive, trying to win the point constantly.”

The veteran Alcaraz coach competed against figures such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who forged their own and memorable rivalries. Ferrero highlighted the great importance that the rivalry Lexus ATP Headtohead between Alcaraz and Sinner has for tennis.
“For sport it is incredible to have these players after Roger, Rafa and Novak. This type of rivalry they have is incredible,” said Ferrero. “I think we must be very happy that these two boys fight for great trophies in tennis.”
“For them, without a doubt, it is something that raises their level every time they enter the court. They know that they have to play an incredible tennis to overcome the other, and it is something that will undoubtedly help each player to raise their level even more.”
